Our System

Every Shimmerchains installation comes down to four decisions: which chain profile, which link size, which colour and finish, and which installation bar it hangs from. The parts are the same whether you are specifying a 1-metre feature panel or a 12-metre room divider.

Our Chains

We make two chain profiles.

ELLIPSE is our original design. Each oval link rotates 90 degrees as it hangs, which gives the chain a gentle alternating rhythm. Compared with CURVE, ELLIPSE offers greater visual transparency — choose it where lightness and openness matter.

CURVE is our front-facing profile, introduced in 2025. It has a more intricate, sinuous silhouette, catches and reflects light across its face, and subtly obscures what lies beyond, giving a more opaque look than ELLIPSE. CURVE is also the profile we can pattern, so any project involving a logo, image or repeat comes to CURVE.

ELLIPSE comes in three link sizes, CURVE in two — five in total. Every link, in every size, is anodised aluminium.

Diagram slot 1 — the two profiles side by side at the same scale, showing ELLIPSE's alternating rotation against CURVE's front-facing form.

Colours and finishes

Fourteen colours, each available in a polished or satin anodised finish — 28 combinations.

Colours carry a code that makes specification unambiguous. Each colour has a polished code and a satin code, and the satin code is the polished code with its leading digit changed to 1: Warm Gold is 021 polished and 121 satin. Quote the code and there is no argument about which of the four golds you meant.

Colours can be combined within a single chain drop or across a wider layout, so a curtain can gradate, block or carry a pattern rather than sitting in one flat colour. Colour mixing is a CURVE capability.

Installation bars

Each installation bar is 915mm (3 feet) long, and bars sit end to end to build up the width you need — so a finished width is a multiple of 915mm. Four bars give a 3.66m run, ten give 9.15m.

There are four bar types:

  • Straight Bar — the standard fixed bar, for clean structured runs
  • Curved Bar — supplied pre-curved to your project's setting-out
  • Straight Plus — as Straight, with a metal casing that conceals the bar
  • Curtain Plus — hooks that slide along a track, so the curtain can be drawn

Bars mount to ceilings, walls or structural frames, either tight to the surface or on a spacer that holds the chains a short distance off it. Straight Plus and Curtain Plus also offer a hanging fixing, for chains that need to hang a long distance below the ceiling. Bars can be suspended on steel cables where there is nothing suitable to fix into.

We supply the bars, the mounting hardware and the installation guidance. Our project managers will tell you which combination suits your condition if you are unsure.

Finishing options

Two things can be done to any chain, in any size:

  • Trimmed — chains cropped at points you specify, so the bottom edge can be shaped rather than level
  • Connect — chains joined horizontally with transparent rings, which makes the curtain behave more like a fabric panel and stops people walking through it

Chains can also be cut on site with standard metal snips, which absorbs any discrepancy in ceiling height. We recommend finishing 20mm clear of the floor.

Material and safety

Every chain is anodised aluminium — a non-combustible material, certified to global fire and user safety standards. Our aluminium is 99.2% recycled.

Tell us which country the installation is going into and we will send the compliance detail for that market. Certification documents are in the Resources downloads.

Chains are designed primarily for indoor commercial settings. Outdoor use is possible, but exposure to weathering may affect the finish over time.

Maintenance is minimal: dust, or wipe with a damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasives.

Made to order

Nothing is cut or finished until the specification is confirmed, which is why the system takes almost any width and drop.

Lead time is 25–35 days from approval, depending on complexity. A single-colour straight run sits at the lower end; curved bars, mixed colourways and custom patterning sit at the upper end. We confirm the exact figure when we quote, before you commit.

We ship worldwide. We do not install, but we can recommend third-party installers in most major cities.

What we need to quote

  • Width — we round to the nearest 915mm bar
  • Drop — finished length from the underside of the bar
  • Chain profile and size
  • Colour and finish — by code where possible
  • Bar type and fixing condition

Send those five and we will come back with tailored pricing and design guidance, usually within 24 hours.

Next: the chain profiles and sizes in detail, or the installation bars and how they fix.
