How to Install Chain Curtains: A Guide to Our Versatile Hanging Chain Systems for Commercial and Hospitality Spaces

Discover flexible, premium chain installation options tailored for commercial, hospitality, and architectural interior spaces.

At Shimmerchains, we know that seamless installation is just as important as stunning design. That’s why we offer a flexible, user-friendly range of installation options that make our aluminium chain curtains easy to fit across commercial, hospitality, retail and residential interiors — no matter the project size or layout.

Whether you're designing a hotel lobby, restaurant partition, retail display, or private feature wall, our hanging chain systems can be adapted to suit your space with elegance and precision.

The Two Core Bar Types: Curve & Straight

All Shimmerchains installations start with a choice between two main bar types: Straight and Curved.

  • Straight Bar: A clean, fixed installation that provides a structured, linear look. Ideal for simple partitions or straightforward wall and ceiling runs.
  • Curved Bar: Custom-bent to your unique specifications, this option allows for soft, sweeping shapes and circular layouts — perfect for high-end architectural and hospitality spaces.

However, both of these base options are just the starting point. When working with clients, we always upgrade to our premium Plus versions — Straight Plus or Curtain Plus — at no additional cost. These concealed-fix systems not only look better but offer added durability and a higher-end finish. It’s our way of delivering exceptional value without compromise.

Straight Plus vs. Curtain Plus

  • Straight Plus: A sleek upgrade with a metal casing that hides the fixings for a polished, permanent look. Best suited for static installations in lobbies, bars, or entrances.
  • Curtain Plus: A dynamic system where the chains can glide along a track using hooks. Ideal for flexible spaces that need partitions to open or close — think dressing rooms, hotel lounges or adaptable conference rooms.

Installation Fixing Types

Once you've chosen your bar, there are several fixing types available — depending on your structure, aesthetic goals and spacing needs.

1. Wall Fixing

The most direct method, this mounts the bar flush to a wall surface. Best for when chains need to sit close against a solid backdrop — such as a feature wall or display area.

2. Wall Spacer

This adds a 32mm gap between the wall and the chain bar, creating depth and dimensionality. Great for lighting effects or visual layering in modern interiors.

3. Ceiling Fixing

Ideal for when chains need to fall cleanly from above. This option mounts the bar directly to the ceiling and works well for room dividers, entrance screens, or overhead partitions.

4. Ceiling Spacer

Here, the bar is suspended 102mm from the ceiling — a great choice for achieving a floating effect or aligning with other design elements like bulkheads, lighting, or HVAC systems.

5. Hanging Fixing

Our most customisable installation type. Using steel cables, the bar can be suspended at any distance from the ceiling. It’s a favourite for architects and designers looking to create dramatic overhead installations or layered zones in large-volume spaces.
